Are your lights tested and ready to use?

We used to only sell lights classed as 'at fault', which are striped of any wiring.  In order to make life easier for our customers we called on a local professional ISO rated company, GB Electronics, who wire and test a selection of our best lights so that they conform to the latest specifications.
Having started the procedure we came across advice from the BBC antiques guide which deals with this subject.
Buyers tips

Today antique lighting is having a renaissance but unfortunately they are not cheap and there are lots of rules and regulations concerning their use and installation. Here are some tips to look out for:

Any dealer selling antique lights (to use immediately) can only sell ones which conform to CE regulations (a declaration by the manufacturer that their product meets the requirements of the applicable European directives),and must pass a portable appliance test (PAT).This is conducted by an experienced electrician once the adaptations have been made and a sticker will be attached to the light saying it's passed and ready for use.
Adapting an antique light can involve a great deal of work and this is why working antique lights are expensive. Only 15-20% of antique lights are English - most are continental, Flemish, Italian or French.

If you wish to buy lights at auction they will be sold in one of two ways-'All Good'(would have a PAT sticker) or 'At fault' (it has to be checked out).People may think they're getting a bargain buying at auction, but if it's 'At fault' it could cost them three times the price to get it working.

Do you have more material than is shown on your websites?

A lot of our stock is shown on the website, however due to the large amount of materials it is not possible to feature it all on the website at once. If you can't find it then try giving us a call to find out if we do.

I am thinking of coming to see you, is there somewhere nice to stay near you?

Our showroom is situated in Teignmouth (map) which is a coastal town that has many places to stay and can accommodate all budgets. For a list of places to stay and more information on the town please visit the South Devon Tourist information, or the Hotels Directory website.

Personally I can only recommend places that have treated past customers very well. Some of these are,
Thomas Luny House-An opportunity to stay in the famous Marine artists own Teignmouth house.  It is a Bed & Breakfast, which is owned by a lovely couple. The husband knows some French and is always happy to practice it.

The Ness House Hotel- A Hotel with lots of character with a wonderful view of our beautiful coast. Although it is not directly in Teignmouth, it is within a few minutes in the car, and is situated over the river in the village of Shaldon.

Is there anything else in Devon you can recommend for us to do while we are there?

There are many things to do in Devon such as visiting Exeter and going and having a coffee on the historic quay, or even going to the market town of Newton Abbot which has some very nice shops and market stalls.

Is there anything to keep the kids occupied while I spend hours looking around nautical paradise?

Yes there are many things. The recently opened playground near the beach offers a brilliant opportunity to keep both you and the kids happy.  You could also give them your spare 2p's and send them to Teignmouth pier.

Is there anything to keep the kids and my other half occupied whilst I visit your shop?

Yes, your best bet is to send them to Teignmouth beach, which is one of the cleanest in Devon, and offers excellent sand castle building opportunities as well as sun bathing and easy access to the main parts of town.

Do you rent items for promotional things, exhibitions and public events?

Yes we do, but a deposit is required. For information on certain items or a quote, please ring us or if you can visit our show room
