19th C. Bone Prisoner of War Domino Set.
A set comprising of 36 dominoes, individually fashioned from pieces of bone, in a bone case with sliding lid. The condition of the set is very good considering the age and the practicality of it being a game that would have been played many times. The only damage is to one of the edges of the sliding lid although the lid still closes securely.
A set like this would have come from the 19th century when prisoners of the Napoleonic War were gaoled in England. Foreign prisoners would make interesting objects as well as models of their vessels and exchange them with the guards for better rations or concessions.
