It was part of the ship’s primary main battery array. The vessel carried four of these guns, with 'A' and 'B' mounted forward, and 'X' and 'Y' mounted aft. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDuring World War II,\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003eHMS Wakeful\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eparticipated in the Dunkirk evacuation, rescuing 631 soldiers on May 27, 1940, before being torpedoed by a German E-boat on the return journey.
