Structurally, these unique pieces of furniture were perfectly sound when we salvaged from the beautiful MV Augustus, but, during the ‘Worlds Largest Conference Centre years’, they had been abused and hidden by ‘Chinese Red’ lacquer

Italian on back of sliding shelf is roughly translated as ‘left handed butler’ , assuming its the for the 1st Class Passengers on the Port side

Meticulously cared for and polished during their years serving the ‘Who’s Who’ of 50’s/60’s Italian society enjoying the ‘Lido Life’ on their way down to South America , and then coated, and re-coated, and re-coated withe the dreaded Chinese lacquer during Her later re-incarnation

So,all in all, the removal of these huge items (picture below was the day we lowered the furniture down the side!!) was no mean feat, the refurbishment was even tougher, importing and unloading them was a strain, but ‘wasn’t it worth it?!’

Although these pieces are for use by the crew these huge pieces of furniture had to blend into some of the most stylish interiors of the 20th Century featuring designs and working by most of Italy’s leading designer of the 50’s including Gio Ponti

Therefore, this is a unique opportunity to own not only a stupendous piece of cabinetmaking but an item which oozes its colourful and fascinating provenance
