A large cast iron ships plaque , from the General Steam Navigation Company

Late 19th century

The General Steam Navigation Company – GSNC, incorporated in 1824, was London’s foremost short sea shipping line for almost 150 years, and the oldest shipping company in the world to begin business with steamships

This plaque was reputedly removed from the SS Lapwing 1879-1911, she was sold to a Turkish company before she ran aground and sunk in 1915

Original paint work on the back , the front was repainted a number of years ago

The raised Globe depicts the both poles
