The 4in Gun tampion from Hms Newcastle
A Town class light cruiser of the Southampton class, Hms Newcastle was built by Vickers Armstrong.
On 23 Nov 1940, she engaged German battlecruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. Active during the Malta Campaign participating in Operation Collar which resulted in Battle of Cape Spartivento and Operation Vigorous where she was damaged by a torpedo from German E-boat S-26.
She also supported operations against Japanese positions along the Burmese coast and in the general Southwest Pacific region.
After the war, Newcastle took part in the Korean War and the Malayan Emergency. She was sold for scrap in Aug 1959.
