Original Royal Navy Reserve Ships Badge – RNVR Tyne
The ships badge from Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Tyne Division.
There has been a Royal Naval Reserve presence on Tyneside since 1905, when Tyne Division of the RNVR was formed.
The round badge has the emblem of the River Tyne God in the centre. Twisted rope edging which was in use from 1930 – 1957.
During World War II no more ratings were accepted into the RNVR which then became the main route for wartime officer entry. The service was called the “Wavy Navy” after the wavy sleeve stripes that RNVR officers wore to differentiate them from RN/RNR officers.
