Painted Sailors Chest – Four Masted Ship Eulomene 1891
As was the custom by sailors, the ship Eulomene has been hand painted on the inner lid.
Eulomene was a four-masted steel ship built in 1891 by R. Thompson & Sons, Sunderland yard Bridge Dock yard , number 170.
Built for Liverpool Shipping Co Ltd – H. Fernie & Sons, Liverpool for general cargo.
Rigged with royal sails over double top and topgallant sails.
Missing in January 1905 after the cable had parted while under tow from Bremerhaven to Newcastle-on-Tyne.
