Royal Navy Boat Badge HMS Opportune – 1942
HMS Opportune was an O-class destroyer of the Royal Navy.
Built by John I. Thornycroft & Company, Woolston for the 1st Emergency Flotilla.
HMS Opportune, has an active service history , which saw her involved at Operation Torch, Arctic convoys, sinking the battleships Scharnhorst and the Normandy Landings to name but only a few.
After the successful invasion of Normandy, HMS Opportune was once again deployed to convoy defence in the Arctic and minelaying roles. She remained in service after VJ Day and deployed at Portsmouth for submarine training and Local Flotilla duties until 1950.
Broken-up by Thos W Ward in 1955.
