HMS Ark Royal was an Aircraft Carrier , which started construction at Blyth as a possible freighter destined for the coal for grain trade , until she was purchased in 1914 by the Royal Navy and continued construction as the first aircraft carrier in ship’s history

Unofficial , as this badge pre dates the Admiralty standardisation of Royal Navy badges in 1919
In WW1 HMS Ark Royal participated in the Gallipoli Campaign
In 1934 she was renamed HMS Pegasus to release her name for a new carrier that had begun construction.
She was assigned to the Home Fleet at the start of WW2
