Siebe Gorman & Co Ltd Single Diver Telephone Unit

Anthony Pardoe Notes

Page 72 vol 2 Diving Helmets and Equipment Through The Ages

These older more traditional polished wooden telephones are much preferred by collectors than the aluminium sets. Many wooden telephone have a central double hinge to which front and rear lids are attached.

The rear compartment is for the 6 volt battery pack, whilst the front houses the workings. The single lid telephones have the same interior layout.

When the chained caps on the front are removed to insert the comms line, they are put onto two of the keepers. Correctly serviced helmets also have telephone blanking nuts fitted on the comms inlets, when these are removed to attach the cables the caps are secured on the two other keepers on the box.
