This is one of the square ceiling lights from the passage ways of RMS Windsor Castle of the Union Castle Line.
The light is designed to fit flush with the ceiling, see detail picture below. The shade is made of translucent white Perspex which has a compass star etched into the centre.
Changing a light bulb is easily done by unscrewing the brass knob in the centre of the light. The rope effect around the edge is made from solid brass whilst the unexposed part of the light is metal. The quality and the condition of the light is very good although on a few of the lights there are traces of white paint along the polished brass edge where onboard decorators have been a little hasty with the brush.
There is no makers name inside or on the back of the light but we assume that it was designed and created by ‘Dernier & Hamlyn Ltd’ like the other ceiling and wall sconces of similar style.
