Original Royal Navy boat badge from HMS Sussex

HMS Sussex was a London sub-class of the County-class heavy cruiser

Built by R. and W. Hawthorn, Leslie and Company, Limited, at Hebburn-on-Tyne

A colourful history which included several campaigns , Mediterranean, Australia and Spanish Civil War. Her service in World War 2 saw her active in the Atlantic Theatre in 1939 , the Indian Ocean in 1943 and the Pacific Theatre in 1944

In 1939 HMS Sussex operated with Force H in the South Atlantic and Indian Ocean during the search for the enemy raider Admiral Graf Spee

On 2nd December she and the battlecruiser HMS Renown intercepted the German passenger ship Watussi

HMS Sussex was paid off in 1949, handed over to the British Iron and Steel Corporation on 3 January 1950, and arrived at Dalmuir in Scotland in 1950 where she was broken up by W. H. Arnott, Young and Company, Limited
