A handsome late Victorian teak campaign chest, combining practical military design with elegant craftsmanship. Constructed in two sections for ease of transport, the chest features a pair of panelled cupboard doors enclosing a spacious shelved interior above four graduated drawers fitted with recessed brass campaign handles.
The doors are richly carved with Gothic-style panels and decorative corbels, while the solid mahogany drawers retain their original brass corner straps and flush fittings. The reverse is equally well finished with brass carrying handles (one of which is missing) highlighting its quality and intended portability. Circa 1870-1890 and in very good antique condition with attractive age-related wear and a beautifully mellow patina.
Raised on turned bun feet and displaying a rich, warm patina, this versatile piece offers excellent storage for books, tableware or clothing. A superb example of 19th-century campaign furniture, ideal for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
