A stunning Hydraulic Steering Pedestal. Inspection panels to see the workings, from the RMCS Annapolis. She was a state of the art destroyer escort , when built in 1963. Designed to have no steering on the bridge. Instead there was a helm station in small windowless room on a lower deck.
HMCS Annapolis had a 32 year career carrying Sea King helicopters and keeping its under water ears alert for foreign submarines. British ship building and weapons manufacturing conglomerate Vickers Sons & Maxim was invited by the Government of Canada in 1911 to establish a Canadian division to manufacture vessels for the nascent Royal Canadian Navy. Vickers Sons & Maxim established Canadian Vickers Ltd. and constructed a shipyard in the east end of Montreal.
