This original cast bronze engine builder’s plaque is from Eriksbergs Verkstad in Gothenburg, Sweden, and is dated 1973. The inscription identifies it as an Eriksberg–B&W type marine diesel engine, manufactured under licence from the renowned Danish engine designer Burmeister & Wain (B&W). During the 1960s and 1970s, Eriksbergs Verkstad was one of Scandinavia’s foremost shipbuilders and marine engine manufacturers, producing powerful diesel engines for tankers, bulk carriers and other ocean-going vessels. These engines were widely respected for their reliability and formed the propulsion systems of many commercial ships operating worldwide.
Originally mounted on the vessel’s main engine, this substantial cast bronze plaque is an authentic piece of Swedish maritime engineering history. With its bold raised lettering, solid bronze construction and naturally aged patina, it is a fine example of 1970s industrial craftsmanship and an excellent collectible for enthusiasts of marine engines, shipbuilding and maritime
