HMS Renown (1916) was a Royal Navy battlecruiser commissioned during World War I, launched in 1916 and entering service in 1917. Designed for high speed and armed with six 15-inch guns, she was among the most powerful ships of her time. Although she saw limited combat in WWI, Renown played a significant role in the interwar period, including serving as the flagship of the Atlantic Fleet. In the 1930s, she underwent major modernisation, which improved her armour, machinery, and anti-aircraft weaponry, adapting her for the evolving naval warfare.
During World War II, HMS Renown conducted convoy escort duties, took part in Arctic convoys, and participated in Mediterranean operations such as supporting the Malta convoys. She also played a role in the Normandy landings in 1944. After the war, HMS Renown was decommissioned in 1948 and scrapped the following year, marking the end of her distinguished naval career.
