A handsome badge from an important warship of WW2 and the Cold War.
The first Tribal-class destroyer commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy—entered service on 30 November 1942, after being built in Newcastle upon Tyne . She served in convoy escort duties to Gibraltar and the Soviet Union, before undergoing a refit in Halifax in early 1944 . Participating in D-Day operations and Battles in the English Channel and Bay of Biscay, she later escorted convoys to Russia and acted as a ceremonial escort following Germany’s surrender . Paid off in February 1946, Iroquois was recommissioned in 1949 and served in the Korean War, earning battle honours, before final decommissioning in October 1962 and scrapping in 1966 .
