A beautiful nameboard with a great name of the Royal Navy featuring large brass letters on teak board, one of only two that were made for the Ship.
From the esteemed Ferrers-Walker collection that was once on display at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth Dockyard.
HMS Apollo (pennant M01, later N01) was an Abdiel-class fast minelayer of the Royal Navy.
Commissioned in February 1944, she joined the Home Fleet and deployed on mining operations in support of the Normandy landings and in the Western Approaches, laying trap fields against U-boats. After damaging her propellers while carrying top Allied commanders post-D-Day, she underwent repairs and later served in Norway and off the Russian Kola Inlet. In mid-1945 she was sent toward the Pacific, though hostilities ended before she saw action.
Decommissioned into reserve in 1946, Apollo was recommissioned in 1951, served with the Home Fleet through the 1950s (including the 1953 Coronation Fleet Review), and collided with a destroyer in 1960 during mooring trials. She was paid off in 1961, placed on disposal, and scrapped in November 1962.
