Acquired by the vendor at the Barbican Centre in Plymouth, where HMS Argyll was living out the rest of Her days, the seller there dealt directly with the Captain who apparently wanted a new badge for the ship and this was one was deemed surplus!
Stunning large alloy badge, beautifully painted. HMS Argyll (F231) is a Duke‑class (Type 23) frigate of the Royal Navy, commissioned in May 1991. Built by Yarrow Shipbuilders in Glasgow, she became the longest‑serving Type 23 by the 2020s. She has seen wide deployment: Sierra Leone (2000), the Gulf (2005), counter‑narcotics missions, several international exercises and humanitarian operations. She underwent a major LIFEX refit (2015‑2017) and was fitted with the Sea Ceptor missile system. In 2024 she was retired and sold to BAE Systems for apprentice training; disposal began in 2025.
