A beautiful large badge from HMS Cheviot that was hung in the Sergeants Mess of the 3rd Battalion of the Coldstream Guards. Mounted on wooden plinth with period script ‘Egypt June 1953’.
HMS Cheviot was a C-class destroyer of the Royal Navy, commissioned in 1941. She served in the Atlantic and Mediterranean during WWII, mainly escorting convoys and conducting anti-submarine operations. After the war, she remained active, refitted for Cold War duties. In June 1953, during unrest following the Egyptian Revolution, Cheviot was deployed to the Suez Canal zone. Her role was to support British forces, protect interests, and provide a naval presence; no major combat engagement is recorded. She continued service through the 1950s before being decommissioned and eventually scrapped.
