From the Ferrers Walker Collection, ex National Museum of the Royal Navy. Bronze and WW2 vintage. Four glorious battle honours; Arctic, Normandy, Biscay & Norway.
She was a Bellona subgroup light cruiser (modified Dido class) of the Royal Navy, built by Hawthorn Leslie. She was laid down 15 December 1939, launched August 1942, and commissioned January 1944. During WWII she escorted Arctic convoys, covered carrier raids (including against Tirpitz), and supported the Normandy landings at Juno Beach. She damaged the German destroyer Z31 in a sweep off Norway. Post-war she served until 1950, then sold to Pakistan in 1956.
