A glorious and heavy nameboard from this most distinguished Cruiser of WW2, She had a very active War with the Royal Navy, being awarded 2 Battle Honours. She was a Fiji-class light cruiser. Initially protecting trade routes in the East Indies, She bombarded Japanese positions in the Pacific and supported carrier raids.
She then saw action off Okinawa and even fired some of the last shots of the war. In 1943, it was transferred to the Royal New Zealand Navy, participating in attacks throughout the Pacific before returning to British service in 1946. Decommissioned in 1960, HMS Gambia’s career reflects the global reach of the British Navy and its crucial role in Allied victory.
