HMS Glasgow , a Southampton Class Light Cruiser. Built by Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, GreenockShe was part of the 2nd Cruiser Squadron of the Home Fleet when she escorted the King and Queen to Canada in 1939. HMS Glasgow served in several campaigns ; Norwegian campaign, The Mediterranean, Far East , Scarpa Flow, The Arctic and Home waters.
In 1948 HMS Glasgow was transferred to the West Indies and was again the flagship of the fleet, returning to the UK in 1950. In 1951 she was the flagship of the Mediterranean Fleet based at Malta under Admiral the Earl Mountbatten of Burma. In 1953, she took part in the film Sailor of the King. She also took a large quantity of gold to Fort Knox as an emergency reserveAfter a colourful career HMS Glasgow was sold for scrap in 1958
