The History of HMS Hermes (R12)

Built by Vickers-Armstrongs and commissioned in 1959, HMS Hermes was a Centaur-class aircraft carrier that served the Royal Navy for nearly three decades. Most famously, she was the flagship of the British Task Force during the 1982 Falklands War, operating Sea Harrier aircraft throughout the conflict.

Decommissioned in 1984, she was subsequently sold to India, where she served as INS Viraat until 2017, becoming one of the world’s longest-serving aircraft carriers. She was finally dismantled in India in 2020–21 where Trinity Marine recovered numerous historic artefacts, including the beautiful Burmese teak ladders from which these pens are crafted.

From the flagship of the Falklands Task Force to a beautifully handcrafted writing instrument, this historic teak has been given a new lease of life, creating a unique and practical keepsake to be treasured for generations.
