An original painted cast bronze crest from a Royal Navy Limbo Mk.10 Anti-Submarine Mortar mounting, displaying the distinctive blue and gilt heraldic design with naval crown. Mounted prominently on the weapon itself, these crests identified the installation and added a ceremonial finish to one of the Royal Navy’s most successful Cold War anti-submarine weapons.
HMS Lowestoft (F103) was a Rothesay-class frigate of the Royal Navy, commissioned in 1961. She served during the Cold War on anti-submarine patrols, NATO exercises, and overseas deployments. Modernised in the late 1960s with improved sensors and weapons, she remained in service until decommissioning in 1985 and was later scrapped.
Beautifully cast in bronze with traces of its original hand-painted finish, the crest has acquired an attractive aged patina while retaining excellent definition and character. Acquired by famous Royal Navy collector Ferrers-Walker and once on loan to the Portsmouth Naval Museum.. An outstanding display piece for collectors of Royal Navy memorabilia, Cold War militaria and maritime antiques, it represents a genuine piece of British naval history and would make a striking addition to any collection, office or museum display.
