Gun tompion from HMS Nereide (U64) from one of Her six 4 Inch guns. HMS Nereide (U64) was a Modified Black Swan-class sloop launched in 1944 during the final phase of World War II. Designed primarily for anti-submarine warfare and convoy escort duties, she was equipped with advanced sonar and radar systems for the time. HMS Nereide was part of the Royal Navy’s efforts to combat German U-boats in the Atlantic and ensure the safe passage of Allied shipping, although she saw limited action due to her late entry into the war. After the war, HMS Nereide continued to serve during the early Cold War period. She undertook various peacetime duties including patrols, training exercises, and showing the flag missions in British overseas territories. 

Like many wartime vessels, she was eventually deemed surplus to requirements as the Royal Navy modernised its fleet.HMS Nereide was decommissioned and sold for scrap in the late 1950's. Though her wartime service was brief, she represented the culmination of wartime sloop design and was part of the broader effort that secured Allied control of the seas.
