A beautiful nameboard with a great name of the Royal Navy. Large brass letters on teak board, one of only two that were made for the Ship.
From the esteemed Ferrers-Walker collection that was once on display at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth Dockyard.
HMS Recruit (J298) was a Catherine-class minesweeper of the Royal Navy, constructed in the United States under the Lend-Lease agreement during World War II. Initially launched in 1943 as USS Embattle (AM-226), she was handed over to Britain the same year and commissioned as HMS Recruit. The vessel operated mainly in the North Atlantic and European theaters, performing critical minesweeping duties to secure Allied shipping routes. Following the war, she was returned to the U.S. Navy in 1947 but was not recommissioned. In 1951, she was sold to the Belgian Navy and served as De Brouwer (M900).
