This original cast bronze builder’s plaque is from Hyundai Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., Ulsan, South Korea, and records a vessel completed in November 1976. Founded in 1972, Hyundai’s Ulsan yard rapidly became the world’s largest shipbuilding facility and played a pivotal role in establishing South Korea as a global leader in commercial shipbuilding. By the mid-1970s, the yard was producing large tankers and cargo vessels for international owners and had already earned a reputation for modern construction methods and high-quality engineering.
This substantial cast bronze plaque would have been mounted aboard a vessel built at the Ulsan shipyard and is an authentic piece of Korean maritime history. Featuring bold raised lettering, solid bronze construction and an attractive aged patina, it is an excellent collectible for enthusiasts of shipbuilding, maritime engineering and industrial heritage.
