Rare Late 19th Cent. Serpent Tiller Yoke
An unusual and decorative antique serpent-form tiller yoke, beautifully crafted with intertwined bronze or brass serpents mounted on a polished oak backplate. The elegant, symmetrical design features finely modelled snake heads at each end with flowing, interlaced bodies meeting at a central mounting, creating a striking nautical-inspired statement piece.
Originally intended as a tiller yoke or steering fitting, it would also make an exceptional architectural feature or wall display for maritime enthusiasts. The warm patina to the metal complements the rich oak timber, both showing light age-related wear consistent with use and age. A distinctive and scarce piece of marine history, combining practical craftsmanship with sculptural Victorian design.
