Rare RN Submarine Inclinometer.
A rare Royal Navy submarine inclinometer by Crockatt, Pattern 5292, from an Amphion Class submarine, used to measure a submarine’s angle of trim or list while submerged. Constructed with a varnished hardwood frame, black enamelled graduated scale and curved spirit tube, this precision instrument enabled the control room crew to monitor the vessel’s fore and aft inclination during diving, surfacing and underwater manoeuvres.
Retaining its original maker’s plaques and military finish, it displays an attractive patina consistent with naval service. Instruments of this type were fitted in Royal Navy submarines throughout the mid-20th century and are seldom encountered on the collectors’ market, making this an exceptional display piece for any maritime or naval collection.
