Beautiful piece of tableware with a wonderful provenance. One of the few match box holders we saved from the RMS Windsor Castle when we stripped Her at the shipbreaker in 2005. Fine EPNS by Mappin & Webb with the earlier Union Castle monogram. Heavy base, lovely shape, matchbox holder and dish for discarded matches.
RMS Windsor Castle, flagship of the Union-Castle Line, was launched in 1959 and entered service in 1960 on the Southampton–South Africa route.
