An original painted wooden nameboard from the celebrated Thames sailing barge S.B. Richmond, built in 1876 by R. M. Shrubsall at Upchurch, Kent. The board features its distinctive hand-painted blue, white, and black livery and is accompanied by a brass plaque identifying it as part of the rail from the vessel.
Thames barges are among Britain’s most iconic working craft, renowned for transporting cargo through the Thames Estuary and along the East Coast. Survivors from these vessels are increasingly scarce, making authentic components such as this highly desirable.
Displaying honest age, weathering, and a rich patina acquired over many decades of service, this nameboard possesses tremendous character and maritime provenance. An exceptional decorative and historical piece, it would make a striking addition to any nautical collection, yacht club, museum, or interior celebrating Britain’s maritime heritage.
