This is an original bronze plaque from A/S Kaldnes Mekaniske Verksted in Tønsberg, Norway. The inscription “Skip 192–1972” refers to the completion of the yard’s 192nd vessel in 1972, the MV Auslag. The MS Torm Aslaug (built in 1972) was a motor tanker constructed by Kaldnes Mekaniske Verksted in Tønsberg, Norway. Originally named the Aslaug upon entering service in May 1972, she was acquired by the Danish shipping company Torm and renamed the Torm Aslaug in 1978.
The distinctive design features the Kaldnes shipyard emblem and commemorates a milestone for one of Norway’s best-known shipbuilders. Founded in 1899, Kaldnes initially specialised in whaling vessels before expanding into ferries, tankers, cargo ships, specialised commercial vessels and offshore structures, remaining a major force in Norwegian shipbuilding until the early 1990s.
Cast in solid bronze with bold raised lettering and a naturally aged patina, this substantial plaque is an authentic piece of Norwegian maritime and industrial history. Produced as a commemorative display rather than a vessel builder’s plate, it is a rare and attractive collectible for enthusiasts of shipbuilding, maritime heritage and Scandinavian industrial design.
