US Navy Ships Bridge Telegraph
An impressive vintage brass ship’s engine order telegraph, or bridge control telegraph, used aboard a powered vessel to transmit engine commands from the bridge.
From either an US Navy or Merchant Navy around the 1950’s, the square pedestal suggesting post war rather than pre war.
The large glazed dial carries traditional commands including Stop, Stand By, Dead Slow, Slow, Half and Full, for both ahead and astern operation, with a substantial brass operating lever and pointer. The dial is additionally marked “Bridge Control” and bears the reference CX544 TY3. Housed in a beautifully polished, heavy brass casing, this is a particularly striking example of traditional maritime engineering and communication equipment, ideal as a statement nautical antique or collector’s piece.
