A Spruance-class destroyer commissioned in October 1978, conducted numerous deployments with the Middle East Force (1980–82, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1992), served as flagship during UNITAS XXIV in South America (1983), and played a key role in enforcing UN sanctions—supporting operations in Haiti (1993), the Red Sea during Iraq sanctions (1994), including rescuing 62 ferry crew members. She also engaged in NATO exercises like Sharp Guard and TAPON 96. Decommissioned in September 1998, she was sunk as a target in UNITAS Gold, April 2009.
