Commissioned in November 1961 as the world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, Enterprise served for over five decades, participating in pivotal events—from the Cuban Missile Crisis and six Vietnam War deployments to early strikes in Operation Enduring Freedom following September 11, 2001. Despite a tragic 1969 flight-deck fire with significant casualties, she continued operations, completing 25 deployments across every major conflict of her era before being inactivated in 2012 and decommissioned in 2017.
