Excellent and attractive cast brass plaque, named after famed Lieutenant Commander William Edwin Hank.
USS Hank (DD‑702), an Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer commissioned on 28 August 1944, served in the Pacific during World War II. On 11 April 1945, while patrolling as a radar picket off Okinawa, she was damaged by a near-miss from a Japanese kamikaze aircraft . In July 1945, Hank and USS Wallace L. Lind mistakenly opened fire on the U.S. Navy submarine USS Gabilan (SS-252) at a range of 12,800 yards .
