Vintage Bowlines Knot Board

This decorative nautical knotboard features a selection of traditional sailors’ knots mounted on a shaped timber backing and surrounded by a substantial rope border. Individual examples are identified in hand-painted Gothic lettering and include the bowline, Spanish bowline, round turn, Portuguese bowline, running knot, triple knot and water knot. Constructed from several timber boards with a dark-painted reverse and wall-hanging fitting, the piece has an appealing handmade character. A striking example of traditional maritime ropework, combining practical seamanship with decorative nautical craftsmanship.
